Kenya

Kenya is a traditional development partner of the Slovak Republic and SlovakAid has been operating there since its foundation in 2003. The intergovernmental agreement on development cooperation between the Slovak Republic and Kenya entered into force in November 2013, and since 2014, Kenya has become a SlovakAid program country. Since 2014, there has been working a development diplomat at the embassy in Nairobi.

Participation in broader international development programs and projects also testifies to the Slovak Republic's active approach to the development of Kenya. On the initiative of the Slovak Republic, a joint project of the V4 countries was launched in December 2017 aimed at supporting small farmers in the cultivation of traditional agricultural products in the country's coastal provinces. This project was financed from the resources of the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Stability and Solving the Causes of Illegal Migration and Displaced Persons in Africa in the amount of 2 million euro. At the same time, the Slovak Republic actively participates in the EU's joint development programming in Kenya. 

SAIDC signed at the end of August 2019 a grant contract with an Irish organization Self-Help Africa (SHA), as part of our joint programming in Kenya, which the Slovak Republic joined by a government decision in 2017. It is a cooperation during the period of 2018-2023 in the agricultural sector, through participation in the AgriFI program and its component No.1: KILIMO-VC (Support for productive, adapted and market-integrated small-scale farmers in Kenya). The Challenge Fund is part of the wider AgriFI program funded under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) to unlock, accelerate and leverage investments within value chains.
