Slovakia to Support Moldova’s EU Accession Reforms

The Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SAIDC) has become a partner in a new international project supporting the Republic of Moldova's accession process to the European Union. The project will strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of Moldovan public institutions and contribute to aligning the country with the rules of the EU Single Market.

The project, "Improving Moldova's Access to the EU Single Market and Supporting the Reform of State-Owned Enterprises," has a total budget of EUR 6 million and will be implemented over 36 months. It brings together three European development agencies: under SlovakAid - the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SAIDC), Expertise France, and CzechAid. The contribution agreement was signed in Paris on 23 July 2026, officially launching the implementation phase of the project.

Under SlovakAid, Slovakia will contribute activities worth EUR 1.75 million. The project will support the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation of the Republic of Moldova and its affiliated institutions in implementing EU Single Market rules, strengthening regulatory capacities, and improving the governance and performance management of state-owned enterprises.

Slovakia will bring to the project its own experience from the EU accession process, including institution-building, legislative approximation and implementation of the EU Single Market acquis. The project aims to support Moldovan partners in carrying out reforms that will contribute to a more efficient public administration, better governance of state-owned enterprises and an improved business environment.

The project also creates opportunities for closer cooperation between Slovak and Moldovan experts and public institutions. Slovakia's participation represents another step in its long-term support for Moldova's European integration and reaffirms SlovakAid's commitment to sharing Slovakia's transformation experience with partner countries.

On the occasion of the launch of the project, Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, stated:

"We are ready to share Slovakia's experience from its transformation process and accession to the European Union. I am convinced that our expertise in institution-building, the transposition of EU legislation and the functioning of the Single Market will contribute to Moldova's successful progress on its path towards European integration."

Michal Čornak, Director of SAIDC, added:

"We are pleased to work directly with our Moldovan partners and support them throughout the accession process. Slovakia has first-hand experience in adopting the rules of the EU Single Market, building the necessary institutions and preparing public administration for EU membership. We believe this practical experience will provide concrete and valuable support to Moldova as a candidate country."
